We are Supporting Crisis at Christmas

We close off 2023, as we did last year, with sponsoring Crisis at Christmas – a very worthwhile cause which our Sales Executive, Andrew Meddings, is devoting 5 days of his time to over the Christmas period. Clifton Rubber are delighted to donate to this worthwhile cause helping people start a life beyond homelessness.

If you want to find out a little more, have a read below:

No one should be homeless and alone this Christmas

Crisis is a charity which campaigns on behalf of people experiencing homelessness. At Christmas, they have their Crisis at Christmas campaign when they open day centres across London in schools and colleges.

These provide homeless and isolated people with hot meals and drinks, clothing, showers and haircuts, and access to doctors, dentists, chiropodists, and physiotherapists. There is counselling and advice on housing, employment, welfare, and benefits. Hotel rooms are available where rough sleepers can be referred to if they would like a safe place to stay.

This is supported by over 100 general volunteers, plus others who provide the different services, with each person giving up their time to offer the guests a safe, warm, and friendly environment in which to spend Christmas.

This will be the 11th year that Andrew has volunteered at the School 21 in Stratford, where he shares responsibility with other senior volunteers for the day to day running of the centre. The charity estimates that it costs £29.73 for each guest to access the services available at Christmas, plus the chance to receive year-round help from the charity which may help them improve their lives.

Michelle, one of the Guests said: “I was sleeping rough for six months. But my first day at Crisis helped me feel safe. It was like a weight had been lifted. Now I can focus on my future.’’

Andrew says: “I have seen how a hot meal, a conversation with someone, a shower, haircut, clean clothes, or just being warm and dry, can make such a difference to someone who would otherwise be on the streets, and the long term help that Crisis can offer can transform someone’s life.”

As the season draws to a close, are you carrying out maintenance at your Bowling Club?

No doubt you will want to use the down time to ensure your Bowling Club is set up ready for the start of next season.

One area of the greens which is under constant wear and tear from the unpredictable and varied British weather is the ditches and their liners.

Ditch liners play an important role in both protecting the woods and jacks from surface damage and stopping them moving from where they drop into the gutter.

Bowls Ditch Liners

As a British manufacturer of rubber and polyurethane products, we have developed an innovative rubber Ditch Liner system, which is now installed in hundreds of Clubs worldwide.

Meeting the criteria and regulations set by the bowls governing bodies, the Ditch Liner System has soft rubber spikes which protect the woods and jacks which drop into the ditch and stop them from moving.

The Ditch Liners are manufactured at Clifton Rubber’s factory in the UK from a high-quality rubber, which is extremely durable in the outside environment.

The product is maintenance free and very cost effective compared to similar products.  They come in one metre sections and the width is suitable for standard bowling club ditches of 200mm – 300mm in width.

Andrew Meddings, Sales Executive at Clifton Rubber said:

“There are several types of ditch liner available on the market.  These range in quality from simple rubber chippings to the specially moulded mats that we provide.  Unfortunately, some liners can deteriorate rapidly, especially cheaper imported versions.  It’s important to invest in a quality product rather than risk a false economy with a cheaper alternative.”

Sawtry Bowling Club commented:

“We’d tried various methods of lining our ditches in the past, but they were poor quality and didn’t last long.  Having seen what Huntingdon Indoor Bowls Club were using we contacted Clifton Rubber straight away.   We’ve now had their Ditch Liners in place for over 3 years and they are excellent quality, protect the bowls and are definitely worth the investment.”

The Marchmount Bowling Club commented:

The main function of a Ditch Liner should be to hold the Jack in place and protect it, along with any Bowls that roll into it.  The Clifton Rubber Ditch Liners are ideal for this job.

I’ve played indoor bowls and seen the Ditch Liners there. We did a bit of investigative work to see what products were out there on the market.  We read the reviews and got a very competitive quote, so we decided to invest.”

We’ve achieved Cyber Essentials Certified Plus Status

Clifton Rubber are delighted to have achieved Cyber Essentials Certified Plus Status

Cyber Essentials is a simple but effective, government backed scheme that will help you to protect your organisation, whatever its size, against a whole range of the most common cyber attacks.

Certification gives you peace of mind that your defences will protect against the vast majority of common cyber attacks simply because these attacks are looking for targets which do not have the Cyber Essentials technical controls in place.

Cyber Essentials Plus still has the Cyber Essentials trademark simplicity of approach, and the protections you need to put in place are the same, but for Cyber Essentials Plus a hands-on technical verification is carried out.

At Clifton Rubber we now have peace of mind that our systems and data are protected at the highest level.
