With Spring around the corner, have you got protection in place for your Bowling Green Ditches?

Want to make sure your green is in great playing condition as your Club re-opens and the restrictions are lifted

Are you ready for the new season? One area of the greens which is under constant wear and tear from the unpredictable and varied British environment is the ditches and their liners.

Ditch liners play an important role in both protecting the woods and jacks from surface damage and stopping them moving from where they drop into the gutter.

Fortunately there are several types of ditch liner available from simple rubber chippings to imported mats.  Unfortunately, some liners can deteriorate rapidly and fail in their main functions, which also leaves the green looking untidy.

The Clifton Rubber ditch liner has soft rubber spikes which protect the woods and jacks which drop into the ditch and stop them from moving, meeting the criteria and regulations set by the bowls governing bodies.  The Ditch Liners are manufactured at Clifton Rubber’s factory in the UK from a high quality rubber material which is extremely durable in the outside environment.

The liners come in one metre sections and the width is suitable for standard ditches of 200mm – 300mm in width.  The product is maintenance free and very cost effective compared to similar products.

Clubs who have installed this innovative product are delighted with the finished product and the ditch liners’ longevity.

Innovative Design

Clifton Rubber have worked in conjunction with their local Bowls club to design and develop an innovative rubber ditch liner system, which is now installed in hundreds of Clubs worldwide.

St Albans Bowling Club Sign

St Albans Bowling Club commented:

““We looked at cheaper alternatives but felt that it was worth buying a quality product that would have a longer life span. These liners have been the perfect solution and are extremely low maintenance.””

Supporting Crisis at Christmas

We close off 2022, as we did last year, with sponsoring Crisis at Christmas again – a very worthwhile cause which our Sales Executive, Andrew Meddings, is devoting 5 days of his time to over the Christmas period. Clifton Rubber will be supporting 5 Guests this Christmas.

If you want to find out a little more, have a read below:

No one should be homeless and alone this Christmas

Crisis is a charity which campaigns on behalf of people experiencing homelessness. At Christmas, they have their Crisis at Christmas campaign when they open day centres across London in schools and colleges – this year in Camden, Bermondsey, Notting Hill, and Hackney.

These provide homeless and isolated people with hot meals and drinks, clothing, showers and haircuts, and access to doctors, dentists, chiropodists, and physiotherapists. There is counselling and advice on housing, employment, welfare, and benefits. Hotel rooms are available where rough sleepers can be referred to if they would like a safe place to stay.

This is supported by over 100 general volunteers, plus others who provide the different services, with each person giving up their time to offer the guests a safe, warm, and friendly environment in which to spend Christmas.

This will be the 10th year that Andrew has volunteered at the City Academy in Hackney where he shares responsibility with other senior volunteers for the day to day running of the centre. The charity estimates that it costs £29.07 for each guest to access the services available at Christmas, plus the chance to receive year-round help from the charity which may help them improve their lives.

Andrew says: “I have seen how a hot meal, a conversation with someone, a shower, haircut, clean clothes, or just being warm and dry, can make such a difference to someone who would otherwise be on the streets, and the long term help that Crisis can offer can transform someone’s life.”

Lloyd, one of the Guests said: “They gave me a welcome pack with food, drinks, and showed me to my room! The cup of human kindness just overflowed from every person – it was unreal. I will never forget that Christmas. It made me feel human again’’.

Delighted to be supporting Doctors Without Borders

We were delighted to be supporting a very worthwhile charity – Doctors Without Borders, also known, perhaps more widely, as Medecins San Frontieres (MSF).

We have chosen to support MSF on a regular monthly basis.  Without donations it would be impossible for the charity to operate and have such a massive impact on the lives of so many people.  Our support will enable the team to carry out emergency surgeries, vaccinate communities, help women give birth safety and much more.  Whether it’s in an active warzone, a refugee camp or a village cut off by flooding, MSF exist to provide the medical care that people need, whoever and wherever they are.

The organisation is 100% privately funded, so our contribution and those of all their supporters is gratefully received.
