Rubber Ditch Liners Prove their Longevity 10 Years On

Ten years ago, Clifton Rubber worked in conjunction with their local Bowls club to design and develop an innovative rubber Ditch Liner system, which is now installed in hundreds of Clubs worldwide.

One area of the greens which is under constant wear and tear from the unpredictable and varied British environment is the ditches and their liners.  Ditch Liners play an important role in both protecting the woods and jacks from surface damage and stopping them moving from where they drop into the gutter.

There are several types of Ditch Liner available on the market ranging from simple rubber chippings to cheaper imported mats.  Unfortunately, some liners can deteriorate rapidly and fail in their main function, which also leaves the green looking untidy.

Ten years later, Clifton Rubber have re-visited a few of the Clubs who had been early adopters of their product, to see how the Ditch Liners were standing up to all those years of use.

Hemingfords Bowls Club were the first Club in the UK to have them installed.  Ten years on the Liners are still in use and still looking in great condition.

Ken Martin at the Club commented:

“We had difficulty in finding this quality elsewhere and since its introduction our Ditch Liners have received nothing but praise.  We’ve had the liners for 10 years and they are still in great condition.  We have no reservations in recommending them to other clubs.”

At St Albans Bowling Club, Mike Pitkin said:

“We looked at cheaper alternatives but felt that it was worth buying a quality product that would have a longer life span. These liners have been the perfect solution and are extremely low maintenance.”

Ramsey Bowling Club added:

“They look fantastic but mainly they do the job they were designed for.  We made the investment, and it was worth it.  “

The Clifton Rubber Ditch Liner has soft rubber spikes which protect the woods and jacks which drop into the ditch and stop them from moving, meeting the criteria and regulations set by the bowls governing bodies.  The Ditch Liners are made in the UK from a high-quality rubber material which is extremely durable in the outside environment.  The liners come in one metre sections and the width is suitable for standard ditches of 200mm – 300mm in width.  The product is maintenance free and very cost effective compared to similar products.
