An Introduction

Rubber Moulding refers to the various moulding processes that turn uncured rubber compounds into complete rubber products.

We are specialists in the design and manufacture of rubber moulded components.  Customers in multiple industries such as the transport, agriculture, offshore and defence sectors use products made by us for their specific applications.

Our team of experts work with clients at all stages of the process - from concept, through design to production in order to ensure we supply a dependable and cost-effective bespoke rubber moulding solution that meets our customers’ requirements.

Our state-of-the-art machinery and design experience make us your one-stop-shop for all your rubber moulding product requirements.

In addition to our bespoke manufacturing solutions, we also offer a range of industry standard component parts that can be found in our product section.

Our History and Expertise

We are a rubber moulding UK based company who have produced rubber mouldings for almost 50 years.  We offer a bespoke solution to meet our customers’ exact requirements taking your idea from concept to design and through to production.

With over 50,000 sq ft at our production facility in Cambridgeshire and a global customer base, we continually invest in state-of-the-art technology to be at the forefront of our industry.

Our highly skilled precision engineers are experts in the machining of precision engineered components including the design and manufacture of mould tools and precision engineered mould inserts for our rubber moulding customers.

To maintain a quality product and service we put quality at the heart of our processes. Our quality management system is therefore certified to ISO9001.

The Rubber Moulding Process

Rubber Moulding products are made by applying heat and pressure to an uncured rubber material in a mould. This process will induce vulcanisation of the compound whilst the rubber material forms the shape of the mould tool cavity.

At Clifton Rubber we have a diverse mix of hydraulic presses. As a result, we can make components using any of the three primary moulding processes – compression, transfer and injection.

This capacity mix gives us the flexibility required to make a broad range of rubber products.  These can be small parts up to very large parts and one off prototypes through to high volume continuous production.

Products Produced

Our rubber-moulded components and products span a wide range of industries and applications.

Manufactured products typically include:

  • Rubber boots
  • Rubber pads
  • Rubber mounts
  • Rubber valves
  • Rubber liners
  • Rubber grommets
  • Rubber bushes
  • Rubber seals
  • Rubber moulded gaskets
  • and many more!!

Rubber Moulding Materials

Moulded rubber products can be made using any commercially available rubber and in a wide spectrum of colours and hardness’s. Common materials we process include:

  • Natural Rubber
  • Neoprene
  • Nitrile (NBR)
  • EPDM
  • Silicone
  • Viton
  • SBR
  • Hypalon

We have the technical expertise to adhere rubber to other materials including bonding rubber to metals, plastics and ceramics either during the vulcanisation process (hot bond) or after the moulding process is complete (cold bond).

Rubber Moulding FAQ's

  • What is rubber moulding?

Rubber moulding is a process of transforming uncured rubber or an elastomer into a usable product by transferring, compressing, or injecting raw rubber material into a mould cavity, which can also be known as a press. The applied heat and pressure create a chemical reaction, called curing or vulcanization, which causes the polymer chains in the material to crosslink and form a rigid structure in the shape of the cavity.

  • What materials are used for rubber moulded products?

Moulded rubber products can be made using any commercially available rubber and in a wide spectrum of colours and hardness’s. Common materials include Natural Rubber, Neoprene, Silicone EPDM and others.

  • What are the different types of rubber moulding processes available?

The most common methods for rubber moulding are injection, compression, and transfer.  For more details of how each of these processes work, please read here

  • How many types of rubber moulding process are there?

There are typically three different types of rubber moulding. Each one involves shaping a raw rubber material into a final product using a mould of some sort. The mould is subjected to pressure and heat, which causes the rubber material inside to vulcanize, or cure.

  • Can you provide examples of industries that commonly use rubber moulding services?

To one extent or another, rubber moulded products span across every industry. Examples of these industries include: medicine and healthcare, electronics, aerospace, automotive manufacturing, offshore, transportation, sports and leisure, agriculture, recycling and many more.
